When we’d visit friends and family in their new homes, my mother would always coo about ‘the great storage space’. I used to roll my eyes at her – who cares about that? What about the cool shower head? The fancy spotlights?
But now that I’m older, I see there was a lot of wisdom in the way she looked at houses. You need space to feel at home, and that means you need storage – and lots of it – so that you can have all the tools and appliances you need without turning your living room into a John Lewis.
That’s why I was interested to review this compact bagged cylinder vacuum from Zanussi. It’s small enough to wedge in a crevice, for example, under your ironing board or on top of that old wine decanter you use once every 4 years. But with a 1400 Watt motor, it should have enough power for everyone.

First Impressions
It’s really small – only 22 centimetres high and 28 deep. You’ll easily find a spot for it to live. And it’s light – 3.2 kilos.
As someone who lives for extras on products, I love the fact that this vacuum comes with accessories that allow you to get into crevices and work on upholstery. The tools that come with this product include an upholstery nozzle specifically for getting into those tougher fabrics. As someone with kids and pets, this is incredibly important in creating a clean, allergen-free home.
It’s inexpensive – doesn’t cost much more than an off-brand vacuum.
Advantages
- Rewind cord is satisfying
- Lightweight, but powerful (A rating on dust pickup)
- Ultra compact
- Not very loud
- Filtration system reduces allergic reactions (though not as much as a HEPA filter)
Disadvantages
- Not meant for prolonged use (i.e. in a commercial setting), as it can become quite warm (it’s perfectly fine for normal home use)
- Power cord is a bit shorter than average (only 5m)
- Energy rating F
Who is this Product For?
While we won’t put a demographic on this vacuum, because everyone needs a vacuum, we will say that this one is geared towards those who need to save on space in the closet. Not everyone is capable of fitting a large Bissell or Shark in their cupboard, and this is not only powerful but space saving. For the price, you can’t really beat it!
Final Verdict
The negative aspects of this product are compromises because of the compact design. There just isn’t space inside it for a super-long power cord, and it’d be crazy to expect a product designed for the home to compete with commercial equivalents.
If you have the right expectations – an affordable, powerful vacuum that does its job with no fuss – then you’ll never regret buying this Zanussi ZAN3002EL.
If you hate vacuum bags, keep shopping, but if you don’t mind them (or can’t afford Dysons) then we heartily recommend this little chap. He’s GREAT.
